What is it?

Edge of Divinity is an action RPG set in a anime world inspired by magical girls. Ascend the Tower as Effy and Kira in this fantasy, anime-inspired action roguelite. Explore magical biomes, gain power ups, and fight enemies to reach the Celestial Realm (or get kicked back down to basecamp!).

What I worked on

Edge of Divinity was an attempt to take an existing game, Starlight Re:Volver, and re-use its assets to create a new game that was smaller and more focused in scope, with which we would run financing or find a publishing deal to develop it into its own identity. Effy and Kira would be re-used and they’d be children of gods who were punished for indolence and thrown out of the celestial realm. To return home they have to prove themselves by climbing the celestial tower, defeating its various floors to ascend to the top.

There were quite a few gameplay differences added from Starlight Re:Volver. Mana was removed in favour of cooldown balance. You could convert powers into Fragments, and apply them to existing powers, giving them the attributes of the converted power; like taking Effy’s fire-debuff applying laser and applying it as a sticker to Kira’s backflip ice attack. We also converted the game from an online experience to a peer-to-peer enabled one, having one user be the host that others connected to.

I worked on a lot of the game, much like Starlight Re:Volver, and especially authoring the fragment binding system.
